$80,840!! That’s how much the 470 teams competing at the Chinook Team Penning’s Regional Finals took home September 15 and 16!
With the extraordinary support from our sponsors, coordinated by Rick Dalton, the 2007 Regional Finals held at the Willow Creek Agricultural Society was bigger and better than ever.
The large number of visiting competitors from the U.S., BC, and northern and central Alberta confirms that our Regional Finals can’t be beat for fun, prizes, and competition.
On the Saturday evening banquet, the local Lion’s Club served a wonderful dinner to the 160 riders who attended.
The CTPA would like to thank Tyson Lybbert of The Mill Store, Ken and Karen Mix of K & K Livestock, Don Schafer, Jens Greimeier and Burl Aycock of Brahma Compression, Sue Buchanan of SS Chaps and Horse Blankets and Rick Dalton of The Calgary Polo Club for their generous donation of door prizes awarded throughout the evening. Custom “Chinook Penner” saddles by Bob’s were awarded to the Year-end Hi-Point Riders.
The Open class saddle was a tight race all year between father and son, Bryan and Chris Thompson, with Bryan squeaking ahead in the last stretch.
Hugh McPherson was the #10 class winner, Kendra Roberts the #7 class winner and Robbie McKay earned the #5 class honours. Year-end teams and Hi-Point Youth received some exceptional prizes from our sponsors: First place - custom Becker Buckles; second place - 10X Smithbilt hats; third place - SS Chaps waterproof spring/fall blankets; and third and fourth place - Vic Bennett custom breast collars and spur straps, respectively.
On Sunday, the Regional Finals was more than entertaining and included an exciting ride-off for the #7 class High Point custom silver spurs designed by Kraig Becker. Wendell Schumacher and Peter Burgener each chose a helper and raced to the herd in an effort to pen one cow the quickest. Peter’s cow was not quite as cooperative at the pen. Ask Wendell for a look at his beautiful spurs next time you see him!
CTPA thanks Megan Bond, Jenna O’Reilly, Hope Poole, Skylar Hansen and Alissa MacKay for proudly carrying our flags to kick-off the Top Ten Finals, and also thanks Kaitlyn McAllister, our anthem singer, for making our Opening Ceremonies a grand event.
