Cam Clark Ford and Trailers held the first two shows of the 2007 Chinook Team Penning Association season at Olds, February 17 and 18: a co-sanctioned show with the Central Alberta Team Penning Association (CATPA).
This was breaking new ground for Alberta penning associations, but thanks to the efforts of Rick Cherrington, Harold Bayes, Carlene Giesler, Lynn Beattie and all the cattle crews and volunteers, all went very smoothly.
Pete Fraser judged a great show and our announcer Christine Sowiak got us in the arena on time. Mother Nature cooperated with two beautiful sunny days making travel and the 12-hour days a breeze.
Several U.S. penners also made the journey for their chance at the $8,000 added money. Tom Milne, CATPA president, thanked Chinook for the opportunity to mix and mingle, competitively and socially, and hopes we can do it again in 2008!
The first show of the Dave Fraser Series, held March 3 at the Okotoks Agriplex, was a huge success: 370 teams showed up to try their luck at winning the pot!
Although the cows were fresh and, at times, tough there were still enough successful teams in each class to collect all the winnings. Like a well-oiled machine, the Chinook penners worked together to keep the momentum moving at an average of 45 teams an hour.
With buckles as motivation to the Hi-Point teams at the conclusion of the series, the next three shows will feature some fast and fancy riding.
