Welcome, Chinook Penners, to the 2007 season! As you can see, we have two February shows in Olds this year and two late-August shows making a total of 18 shows!
We have made a change in our #5 class this year. A total of four entries will be allowed, provided one of those entries is a draw team. This, along with the #3 incentive, should make our #5 class bigger and better in 2007.
As well, the Junior Youth time limit has been reduced to 75 seconds, and all Junior Youth competing in numbered classes will be assigned a rating.
We ask that everyone submit their membership prior to the first show, to ease the congestion and confusion and speed up the day.
Also, please note that there is an additional charge of $10 per membership for those postmarked after January 15, and the CTCPA has increased their membership fee from $20 to $25.
In addition to our Chinook pennings, the Rodeo Royal qualifier is scheduled for April 15 and Rodeo Royal penning for April 19 to 22. The Calgary Stampede qualifier is slated for July 5 to 6 and the Stampede penning for July 7 to 9.
Hope we see you in Olds!

Thompson Training Center Saddle Series
After the last cow has been penned at Regionals and Nationals and the runs at the Zender Classic have been discussed all the way back to Calgary, Millarville-area penners turn their thoughts to another fun penning.
Every year in mid-December, the Thompson Training Center Saddle Series culminates with their sixth and final jackpot: a Christmas penning!
This series is a bi-monthly occurrence. All teams are a draw format with pay-outs to fifth place at each jackpot and participants earning points for placement in the top ten at each competition.
Those top-ten points are tallied throughout the year to see which top 15 participants will compete against each other, in three drawn rounds, for the coveted saddle.
This year, Ron Vogel clocked the fastest three runs and took home the first-place saddle.
Second place, a silver buckle sponsored by Ervie and Jaquie Miller of Miller Agricultural Supply, went to Darryl Bruce and, winning a custom blanket sponsored by SS Chaps & Blankets, was Crissy Santangelo.
River Café caters a fabulous turkey dinner complete with all the trimmings and the penners mix, mingle, sip some ‘nog and discuss the possibilities waiting next year.
Debbie and Bryan Thompson would like to express their appreciation to all the sponsors who give their support to this year-long event, namely: Jackson Construction, Millarville; Cam Clark Trailers, Airdrie; Smithbilt Hats, Calgary; Miller Ag supply, Okotoks; Okotoks Country Depot; Rona, Turner Valley; Spray Lakes Sawmills, Cochrane; Blue Rock Minerals, Didsbury; Horseware, Black Diamond; SS Chaps & Horse Blankets, Calgary; and River Café, Calgary.
