April 21 and 22, 2006 proved to be an event well worth waiting for. David Dellin of Sanger, Texas, flew in to show us his training techniques that have helped him win three AQHA World Championships and two Congress titles.
At only 28 years of age, David Dellin has become one of the most respected and talented trainers in the industry today.
Riders taking part in the clinic were Trevor McBurney, Deserie Rieu, Pat Ross, Colton Ross, Lisa Schiestal, Darren Cornforth, Myles McLean, Trish Bracken, and Heidi Packard. All the riders came away with a better understanding of the techniques David uses to get his horses show ring ready.
During the lunch break on Saturday, David spoke about which bits he uses and what works for him. He also gave a talk on “What to Wear” in the show ring to give you that polished look and catch the judge’s eye. Jones Boys Saddlery and Western Wear supplied a selection of bits and clothing so people were able to see first-hand what to buy.
Although the weather did not always cooperate, the clinic was a huge success and David has been asked to return next year for a continuation of this clinic. Both participants and spectators took a wealth of knowledge away from this clinic and for those who are trainers and participated and watched this event, they now have new ideas and changes to implement in their own training programs at home.
The two-day clinic was hosted by Trevor and Tanya McBurney of McBurney Quarter Horses, Lacombe, Alberta.
