If you’re considering buying or selling a Quarter Horse this fall, you’ll want to hitch up at Farmfair International in Edmonton.
The Alberta Quarter Horse Breeder’s Group is again teaming up with Northlands to offer their Fall Select Sale during Farmfair International in early November. In 2007, the show is slated for Saturday, November 3 in the UFA main show hall at Northlands AgriCom. The horses are displayed earlier in the day for interested buyers.
This is the second year the sale is being offered on a Saturday. In 2006, sales at the Fall Select Show were the best in recent member, totaling $126,100 with an average selling price of $3,941. That’s up dramatically from a sales total of $95,200 and sales average of $3,071 in 2005.
A change in timing from a weekday to the opening weekend of Farmfair International may account for some of this rise in interest and price point.
As well, horse enthusiasts from across Western Canada were drawn to the event that weekend due to a greater variety of equine programming, including shows, sales, competitions and a comprehensive seminar series.
“We knew that opening weekend of Farmfair would draw huge crowds of horse enthusiasts for a variety of reasons, and that putting the Fall Select Sale on that weekend should mean an increase of potential buyers attending,” says Aaron Falkenberg, Northlands volunteer director.
“We saw the effects of that through each sale and show we held, especially the Fall Select Show.”
This equine-focused programming for the first weekend of Farmfair International will continue in 2007 and beyond, as recognition and service to this thriving industry.
