Rider Scott Hanson of Mountain View, AB, and horse Spoonfula Quick, owned by Connie Down-Cicoria of Calgary, were named Open Futurity Champions of the 2006 Wrangler Cutting Horse Futurity.
The 25th annual event ran October 10 to 15 at Stampede Park and awarded a total prize purse of $297,150 in six categories.
“This is a very popular event,” said Rod Stirling, event chair. “It’s Canada’s largest and richest cutting horse competition and we had more than 250 riders and horses from across Canada and the United States participate this year.”
The winners of the $50,000 Amateur Futurity were rider Les Jack of Rocanville, SK, and horse CD Pep Si Lena. The winners of the $50,000 Amateur Derby were Rider Joy Smith of La Veta, CO, and horse Simply Be Smart.
The winners of the $50,000 Amateur Classic were rider Scott Wardley of Okotoks, AB, and horse Smart Little Koolio.
