Lazy D Diamond Quarter Horses is owned by Darla Friesen and Bob Pollard along with their two girls Samantha and Raelyn.
The ranch is situated 80 miles west of Edmonton on a half section of land. There you will find four spectacular stallions along with an exceptional herd of mares. Focusing mostly on reining, working cow horse, and cutting, they offer an excellent selection of prospects for your consideration.
It was in the fall of 1999 that they purchased a young stallion named Majors Dapper Dan. That diamond in the rough is now – most definitely – a diamond that shines. Fondly known as “Chex,” the stallion was the ARCHA Limited Open Snaffle Bit Futurity Reserve Champion in 2001, claimed the ARCHA Open Working Cow Horse Championship in 2002 and 2003, and was the 2002 Canadian Supreme Hackamore Derby Champion under the guidance of Loren Christianson.
In 2004, Cody Sapergia showed Chex in reining and won Reining Canada’s National and Provincial Open Novice Horse Championships. Cody and Chex went on to qualify for the 2005 Reining Team Canada by scoring a 150.5 at the Western Canada Cup in Cardston, AB. Team Canada competed at the NRHA Futurity this past December in the FEI CRIO and came home with a bronze medal.
Chex is producing some very nice looking, nice-minded offspring that are very athletic. You will see his first foal crop compete this year as three-year-olds. Watch for Darla and Chex in the reining showpen this year, along with daughter Samantha showing Miss Prime Chex.
In the summer of 2005, Lazy D Diamond Quarter Horses purchased their young, up-and-coming stallion from Tom and Molly St. Hillaire of Oregon: Skeet McQueen. He is sired by Skeets Peppy and his dam is Miss Trickynic (Reminic and Tricky Command).
In the fall of 2005 “Skeeter” went to his trainer Craig Schmersal of Overbrook, Oklahoma, (one of NRHA’s newest million-dollar riders) and is showing great promise already. Watch for this gorgeous buckskin stallion in the showpen in 2007.
Recently, the family also ventured into a partnership with Earl Krenzel of Duffield, AB. When the opportunity arose, they couldn’t refuse the stallion and mare power Earl had to offer.
First, there is Macs Texas Star, a son of Quixote Mac ($116,636.80 NCHA earnings and 2002 NCHA Open World Champion) and out of the dam Holly Leo Lena ($2,858.35 NCHA earnings). “Mac” offers some intense cutting bloodlines that are rare to Canada.
Then there is Listos Chex, a four-year-old son of Listo Pollito Lena (Smart Chic Olena) and out of a daughter of Peppy Badger Chex that is on their ranch (Miss Chocolate Chex). “Listo” is in reining training with Cheryl Mitchell of Rein Maker Inc., and will be campaigned in the reining derbies.
Every year, Lazy D Diamond Quarter Horses likes to breed to one outside stallion. This year, they are looking forward to breeding Miss Chocolate Chex (Peppy Badger Chex) to Dunnit In Hollywood at Dell Hendricks. Miss Chocolate Chex is also the mother of Listos Chex and Miss Prime Chex. She is proving to be an exceptional broodmare.
While at the NRHA Futurity last fall, Lazy D Diamond Quarter Horses also purchased some new bloodlines to the herd including a daughter of Matt Dillon Dun (Hollywood Dun It x Rosalie Dillon shown by Todd Crawford). Matt Dillon Dun It recently won the 2005 AQHA World Senior Working Cowhorse Championship.
When able, Bob likes to do working cow horse. In 2002 he was the ARCHA Reserve Champion in the 250 Limit, riding the family’s mare Smart Solanos by Smart Little Baggins. “Lana” is also producing some nice minded, athletic babies. Watch for them in the show pen.
