Live Outside the Box has started up once again! There are already 92 members signed up! This creative program has stirred up a lot of interest and enthusiasm.
AEF members from all over Alberta aged 10-14 are leaving the TV and computer behind and getting out and spending more time with the horse. Not surprisingly we have received a lot of support from parents too!
These young members are keeping track of how they are spending their time right up until December 31st to win some great prizes. If you are 10-14 years old and want to Live Outside the Box, call the AEF at 1-877-463-6233 ext 3 or visit www.alberta equestrian.com to join!
Educational Scholarship
The AEF Educational Scholarship is a financial scholarship funded by the AEF Scholarship Fund, established and maintained through generous support of donations.
Two awards of $500 each will be given out yearly to active AEF members who exemplify the objectives of the AEF, if there are suitable applications.
The scholarships will be applied towards an Equine Related Program at a Canadian Educational Institute. It may be applied towards full or part time studies. Candidates will be selected on the basis of information contained in their application form and letters of reference.
Any candidate may receive this scholarship only once in their lifetime, however, an unsuccessful candidate may re-apply the following year. The complete Application package must be received at the AEF office by November 15 of each year.
Only complete applications will be considered, late applications will not be considered. A complete scholarship package can be accessed at www.alberta equestrian.com/grants.asp or by contacting the AEF office.
Breeds and Industry
Livestock commodity groups and related associations have been represented as stakeholders on various provincial government committees for a number of years.
Alberta Equestrian Federation (AEF) members have not always been directly represented. The Breeds & Industry Division of AEF has been mandated within the past three years to acquire stakeholder status at Government and other Provincial body levels.
A number of AEF members have volunteered and been appointed to representation positions. AEF is now represented on Boards and/or Working Group Committees related to the Animal Health Act, Animal Protection Act, Livestock Identification and Commerce, Alberta Veterinary Medical Association, Alberta Farm Animal Care, Alberta Land Use Framework and others.
The purpose of these efforts is to create a flow of information available to AEF members related to horse health and welfare and marketing with the Province, nationally and internationally. For example, a look at the AEF website www.albertaequestrian. com will inform members and public of timely health, legal and other up to date information.
Members and horse enthusiasts can look forward to more timely information on a regular basis.
The AEF participated in the formation of the Alberta Stables Association. A Stable Directory with in excess of 400 stables is available on the AEF website.
However, not all of the stables in the AEF Stable Directory are members of the new Alberta Stables Association. If a stable wishes to join, contact information is available at www. albertastables.ca.
More member volunteers are needed to act on a number of interest committees. If you are available and would like to participate, please contact the AEF office or Breeds & Industry Chairperson Bill desBarres at (403) 526-1070.
If there are topics that members would like to have addressed at our Annual General Conference March 15, 2008, we will be assembling topical speakers. Please inform the AEF office or Bill with your requests or ideas.
Alberta Equestrian Games
We had a tremendous increase in the horse population in Millarville for the week of August 9 to 12 for the Alberta Equestrian Games.
We would like to thank all the volunteers, committee members and staff for their hard work in organizing and putting on this spectacular event.
The success of the Games wouldn’t have been possible without the support of our sponsors and competitors; a big thank you goes out to each and every one of you!
By the time you read this, we are moving into fall and we hope everyone had a good harvest. Check on the AEF website for up to date news and views.
