If the Calgary Stampede Auction, which took place on April 10, 2006 at the Archie Boyce Theatre in Calgary, is any indication, the remaining World Professional Chuckwagon Association (WPCA) canvas auctions should have record numbers as well.

Students enrolling in Equine Studies at NAIT’s Fairview Campus have to love their horses because they will spend literally half their time either riding or working with them.

It is this high level of hands-on experience that makes the Horse Training and Horsemanship programs so unique, according to instructor Wayne Gray. With only 14 students per intake, there is also plenty of one-on-one time with instructors to ensure a good equestrian education.

Lakeland College – with Vermilion, Lloydminster and Strathcona County campuses – offers a variety of full-time, equine related career programs and campus clubs, as well as continuing education opportunities.

In the one-year Ranch and Feedlot Rider Certificate program students learn skills required to manage and take care of cattle in a community pasture, feedlot, or ranch setting. Skills include handling cattle, recognizing and treating cattle diseases, and training horses. The unique program also has a practicum component. Students supply their own horse and tack.
