The Canadian Reining Breeders Classic (CRBC) wrapped up September 15, ranking in the top 15 of the NRHA show in the world and host to some of the finest riders and horse teams in North America.

The show paid out over $123,000 during the course of its three-day run at PineRidge Equine Park in Winnipeg, MB.

In conjunction with the CRBC Classic Classes, the CRBC hosted the Western Canada NRHA Affiliate Finals providing the top four finalists with an invite to Oklahoma City and some wonderful prizes supplied by Classic Equine, Anderson Bean Boots, and the NRHA, not to mention three championship saddles! Two saddles were awarded to the winners of the NRHA Saddle Series Competition.

A night of celebration will take place at the Deerfoot Inn and Casino in Calgary on Saturday, November 3.

The annual WPCA awards banquet will honour those who achieved greatness this past season, as well as those who have contributed to the growth and prosperity of the most exciting professional sport in the world today.

Kelly Sutherland will be the top honouree this year as he made history once again by capturing his record setting 10th World Chuckwagon Championship. He posted 33 top ten runs in 2007, including 9 first place runs and 12 additional runs that cracked the top 5.

“Absolutely great – It was one our of largest futurites to date!” is how Alberta Reined Cow Horse Association President Jim Dobler described the 13th annual Goodyear Snaffle Bit Futurity and Championship held in Claresholm, AB, August 31 to September 2.

This year’s show saw over 110 entries in total, with cash and prizes topping $50,000. Many of Canada’s most accomplished Open riders, horse owners and Non Pro competitors, came in from Saskatchewan, Montana, BC, Washington, and all parts of Alberta, to participate in what is becoming known as one of the premier cow horse events in Canada and the northwest U.S.

The two-day Ed O’Reilly Penning held at the Millarville Racetrack and Agricultural Society on August 25 and 26, was advertised as “rain or shine.”

Saturday, there was “shine” and Sunday there was “rain,” but both days were a huge success.

Ed, Donna, Jesse and Jenna put on a fantastic event complete with a pig roast and all the trimmings. All proceeds from the pig roast ($1,150) were donated to the Children’s Hospital by the sponsor, Fine Rides & Collectibles.

The final stretch of the 2007 WPCA Dodge Pro Tour began at the WPCA Dodge Pro Tour Championship and Strathmore Heritage Days Stampede August 2 to 6 in Strathmore, Alberta.

The top eight drivers in the world standings prior to the start of the Strathmore Heritage Days Stampede, qualify for the playoff round for the WPCA Dodge Pro Tour Championship. Kelly Sutherland, Luke Tournier, Rick Fraser, Neal Walgenbach, Leo Tournier, Jerry Bremner, Mark Sutherland and Troy Dorchester made up the elite eight playoff contestants.
