Quarter horse reining stallion Topsail Whiz has attained “$5-million-dollar sire” status, only the second stallion to earn this distinction, which is based on offspring earnings.

The major milestone came just over one year after reaching the $4-million-dollar mark.

The Canadian Professional Chuckwagon Association Awards Banquet and Dance was held on October 27 in Lloydminster and it was Shane Yellowbird and Ray Mitsuing that stole the spotlight.

CCMA Rising Star Award winner Shane Yellowbird played to a full house during the dance portion of the evening that was open to CPCA members, fans and the public. Mitsuing who had a sub-par season in 2006 returned in 2007 to capture three awards including the Most Improved Driver, the High Point Driver and the Year End Driver Award.

Cardston, Alberta, played host for the inaugural Reining Alberta Fall Classic, October 12 to 14. The weather was great, the pie was delicious and we all had a great time! Three hundred and thirty nine runs were judged during the three-day show.

Thanks to the judges, Jay Dee and Janis Anderson and bit check judge Renee Pipinich the show ran smoothly and there was even some free time for visiting. Don Miller, the announcer did a wonderful job keeping us up-to-date with scores and the win information.

Members, friends, fans, and sponsors all gathered at the Deerfoot Inn and Casino in Calgary on November 3 to honour the 2007 champions and award winners.

Previously declared winners such as World Champion Chuckwagon Driver Kelly Sutherland, WPCA Dodge Pro Tour Champion Driver Neal Walgenbach, World Champion Outrider Chanse Vigen, WPCA Top Rookie Driver Codey McCurrach and WPCA Top Rookie Outrider Ryan McAleney were among many others who received awards at the annual WPCA Awards Banquet. There was a new format this year with a great deal of video presentations that highlighted the accomplishments of many of this year’s champions and award winners.

All who attended were treated to exactly this at the Annual Stakes and Futurity, SRHA’s premiere reining horse show. The Golden Mile Arena in Moose Jaw was host to the 31st Annual Show on October 19, 20, and 21.
