Earlier in 2007 the Canadian Performance Futurity’s Prairie Zone held its Dressage classes in Edmonton, Alberta. A quick glance at the results for those classes reveals a lineup of Canadian Warmbloods as the prizewinners.

On August 31, the Hunter and Jumper classes were held at the Alberta Hunter Horse Society Year-end Show. Once again, the ribbons awarded through to fifth place in the four- and five-year-old classes went to Canadian Warmblood horses.

This year marked the second anniversary for the Canadian Performance Futurity, and, once again, Thunderbird Show Park in Fort Langley, BC, showcased the classes for the Pacific Zone.

Seeing expansion in the program, classes for five-year-old horses were now offered in addition to the previously held four-year-old classes. Additionally, jumper classes were also held for the first time in this zone, in addition to the hunter and dressage classes.

For its 25th year, the Edmonton Northlands Horse Show kicked off in the infield of the racetrack at Northlands Park. From May 29 to June 3 harness racing came second at the track as over 330 hunter/jumper competitors vied for over $160,000 in prize money.

With the $40,000 Kubota Cup Grand Prix, $25,000 ATCO Cup and $20,000 National Bank Financial/Paramount Energy Trust Grand Prix, the show attracted several of Canada’s top riders including Jonathan Asselin, Tamie Phillips, and Lisa Carlsen.

The Amberlea Meadows Beginner Hunter Schooling Show II in south Edmonton was held on April 1.

During this two-part show series, horses and riders of all ages and levels demonstrate their interest and skills in preparing their horses and themselves for competition.

Part I, which debuted on March 11, was the kick-off for novice hunter competitors, allowing them to try their hand in the show ring and get a feel for what is involved when competing.

Equi-Sport owned by Jill Fuselli has partnered with L & M Stables east of Calgary, approximately 20 minutes from the city limits.

L & M, which is owned by Earl and Tamara Abrahamson, boasts a new 70 x 180 ft indoor arena with 12 box stalls, a wash rack, and tack rooms. Outside, riders enjoy the large 200 x 200 ft outdoor ring, round pen, as well as ride in the open fields.

The American Paint Horse Association (APHA) has renewed its alliance with the National Snaffle Bit Association (NSBA) and will offer cash bonuses to horses competing at the NSBA World Championship Show.

APHA recently reformatted the Paint Preferred incentive program and as a result, APHA will offer up to $120,000 annually to Paint horses competing in select competitions with its alliance partners.
