The short-listed riders for the 2007 Canadian Eventing Team have been announced.

The riders were selected primarily based on their results at FEI international eventing competitions (CCI/ CCIO/CH) at the three- or four-star level in the 2006 season.

The short-listed riders and their mounts along with their hometown are listed below:
• Kyle Carter on Madison Park, Sparr, Florida, USA.
• Sandra Donnelly (pictured right) on Buenos Aires, Calgary, AB.
• Kelli McMullen-Temple on Paris, Round Hill, Virginia, USA.
• Ian Roberts on Napalm, Port Perry, ON.
• Penny Rowland on Windswept, Orangeville, ON.
• Michael Winter on King Pin, Newnan, Georgia, USA.

Western Canada was well represented at the Galway Downs International Three Day Event November 2 to 5, 2006 in Temecula, California, where all nine Canadian competitors in the standings hailed from either Alberta or British Columbia.

Lisa Fergusson of Langley, BC, was the highest placed Canadian in the CCI** division. Riding Uni Griffon, her eight-year-old Canadian-bred, Thoroughbred-cross gelding, Fergusson finished in sixth place with a total score of 59.

Canadian eventing riders recently headed across the border, earning great results at two major U.S. events.

Hawley Bennett of Langley, BC, had immense success in the CIC-W*** World Cup Qualifier at Rebecca Farm, held July 21 to 23, 2006 in Kalispell, MT. Bennett claimed third in the CIC-W*** World Cup Qualifier division riding Livingstone, who she co-owns with her mother, Gerry.

The 16-year-old Thoroughbred gelding, fondly called “Hank,” has been Bennett’s long-time partner from the North American Young Riders’ Championships to Pan American Games, Olympics and most recently, the 2005 World Cup.

“I was so happy with Hank’s performance,” said Bennett. “He was a bit excited during dressage because the novice cross-country was running at the same time, but we had a decent test.

The Edmonton-area landscape is changing – and for the better. A new and long-awaited cross country course is being constructed two miles west of the town of Beaumont, just east of Highway 2.

Aptly called the Beaumont Cross Country Course, the 55-acres of riding heaven are a welcome addition to the Alberta landscape and of huge benefit to Pony Club members, eventers, drivers, and the general riding public.
