Well, that was a nasty blast of cold weather! It’s these times when I’m very thankful I work from home and don’t have to venture out on the roads. I can put on a warm sweater, toasty slippers and pour myself a delicious cup of coffee and start up the old laptop, happy that the only time I have to experience the biting cold is when I have to let the dog out.
The new year is here and it’s time to reflect on last year’s goals and fine tune them for the journey ahead. At Horses All, we will continue to bring you a wide variety of stories from the equine world along with our regular features — Horses All Places, Horses All People and Horse Health as well as our regular columns, Ask the Alpha Mare, Bob’s Backend and The Thinking Rider. We’ll also continue to feature a horse breed and an equine discipline every month. This year, we’ll be working on making our website more interactive and keeping it updated more often with fresh Bits and Bites.
Our cover story takes a look at the magnificent Mustangs of the Pryor Mountains on the Montana/ Wyoming border, whose lineage dates back about 400 years. Along with this feature are two related stories about protecting Mustangs and the life of Canadian author and sketch artist Will James, who lived near the Pryor Mountains and its Mustang herd, which provided inspiration for his many books and sketches.
In this issue we highlight the Tennessee Walking Horse and talk about the exciting sport of reining. We also look at feeding brood-mares in our Annual Breeder Special. If you continue riding all winter you’ll want to read our story on page 24 about how to deal with those snowballs that build up on your horse’s hooves.
We are always looking for great ideas about the kinds of stories you would like to read in Horses All. Please send me an email with your comments and ideas to sherry@fbcpublishing.com
Happy New Year!
